Albion Hotel Project Takes Big Step Forward
Shaheen Development is thrilled to begin a new project: redeveloping a prominent site in downtown Albion into a 72-room hotel.
A $1 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Michigan Strategic Fund, announced earlier this week, clears the way for a four-story, 72-room boutique hotel to be constructed at the corner of Superior and Porter streets in downtown Albion. Nearly $1 million in additional funds will come from the City of Albion Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to prepare the site for the build.
“The hotel is another important step forward for our city, less than a year after the reopening of our beautiful landmark Bohm Theatre across the street,” said Albion College President Mauri Ditzler. “It’s exciting to be in a place that is embarking on a remarkable turnaround. It’s even more exciting to think about where Albion can be ten years from now, as a headwaters community with a vibrant downtown that can serve as a small yet compelling example of a Midwest region returning to prominence.”
